Bob Hope Welcomes Chris Tucker on May 18

Chris Tucker has flourished in his movie career.  If you aren't familiar with his name, perhaps you know his other personae such as Detective James Carter from Rush Hour or Smokey from the movie Friday.

If you loved his movie antics, you will definitely enjoy his stage performance. Chris Tucker's career began in standup comedy during the early 90's. It was from his performances in Def Comedy Jam that led to his successful movie career.After a successful run in Abu Dhabi, he is returning to the United States and will be live in Stockton on May 18.

Jazz Takeover Beginning March 18th

Stockton and the University of the Pacific are known for many things, but amongst all other things, Dave Brubeck is arguably one of the most iconic. Although he may not physically be with us anymore, his legacy lives on in Stockton.

The Brubeck Festival is an annual celebration that pays homage to not only Dave's music, but also his intellect and worldly influence. This year, the festival will be the week of  March 18 and will conclude on the 22nd.

To conclude the night, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz and Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) will be performing at the Bob Hope Theater on Saturday, March 23. The performance will begin at 8 PM and is sure to be a great time for jazz enthusiasts. Prior to the concert, the area surrounding Bob Hope Theater will be abuzz with "The French Quarter" so come ready to celebrate with us the Louisiana way. The French Quarter will be a New Orleans-style street festival filled with French and Cajun cuisines along with street entertainment. This event will last from 4-8 PM, so feel free to enjoy the festival before you sit down to see the concert.

Giving Blood and Saving Lives

According to the American Red Cross, every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood, and over 44,000 donations are needed every single day.This Sunday, February 17, community members will have the opportunity to donate blood and bone marrow to those in need. The arena will be hosting this drive, and all participants will receive one free voucher to a Stockton Thunder hockey game!

It's not only blood that matters, but bone marrow as well. Over 70% of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant have no matching donors in their family (as stated by DoSomething.org). If you have never donated marrow before, the process is simple. A cheek swab is done to provide a DNA analysis to see if a recipient and donor are compatible for one another. If a match is found, there are 2 ways to donate marrow:

One is to have blood taken from the arm. This blood then filters through a machine that separates the stem out the stem cells. The blood is then transferred back into the body.

The second way is to have marrow taken from the hip bone. This procedure is done while the donor is under local anesthesia so there is no pain involved.

If you're interested in donating blood or bone marrow, stop by the arena anytime between 11-4 PM on Sunday. Maybe you will be the one who saves someone's life.

Disney on Ice: A Magical Treat for the Entire Family

On February 7-10, the Disney Princesses will be bringing their magical kingdoms to the Stockton Arena! This show will feature some of the newer Disney princesses: Rapunzel and Tiana. You'll join Rapunzel and Flynn as they embark on an incredible journey. You'll also travel to the bayou with Tiana and Prince Naveen, where one kiss creates a whirlwind of adventure. Cinderella will also be making an appearance as she searches for her Prince Charming.

 

This show will feature aerial acts as well as impressive ice skating. If you're looking for a show that the whole family can enjoy, Disney on Ice is the perfect one!

Bill Cosby to Grace the Stage at Bob Hope Theater

On Saturday, January 26, Bill Cosby will be lighting up the stage at Bob Hope Theater. After years of successful television programming, Cosby is now bringing back his presence to live audiences everywhere.
